2023 Colors of the Year- Go Bold or Go Home

EENY MEENY MINY HUE

The Pantone Institute and the paint manufacturers have announced their color for 2023. Several paint companies have chosen bright colors that leap off the walls, like Mylands of London’s Barbiecore-inspired hot pink, FTT-006. I am partial to Myland’s Hot pink. I can not help but feel cheerful and upbeat when I am in the presence of this vibrant color.

Vibrant colors like FTT-006 I find work well in spaces that are either small cramped areas or have poor natural light. It really tricks the mind into saying, “Hey, this is a special room. I would love to spend time here.” In addition, it creates the illusion of a brighter and larger space than it actually is.

Sherwin Williams has decided to continue the past trend of a neutral color walking between a beige and blush, Redend Point, SW9081. As much as I respect this modern twist on a neutral. I would prefer to use it on the upholstery of the sofa or in smaller doses with decoratives.

After coming out of three years of isolation, uncertainty, and monotony I find a room of neutrals depressing. I look forward to using this as a neutral in the future with possibly deep jewel tones in the family of blues and greens.

The Patriarch of Paints

Benjamin Moore’s color paint selections are deeply rooted in their east coast heritage. Their 2023 color, Raspberry Blush(2008-30), is surprisingly refreshing compared to their signature colors of the past. It is a coral color with a touch of pink. You can argue it still has Benjamin Moore’s signature dark values. However, this is what grounds the color so that it is not cartoonish or childish.

I can definitely see using Raspberry Blush in a gloss finish on a buffet or console. I did something similar a couple of years ago when I refurbished an existing dresser for a client in orange coral.

The OG on Color of the Year

The Pantone Color Institute is whom I primarily am influenced by when it comes to the color of the year. Their research for on color spans fashion, product, graphic design, and lifestyle-oriented industries. They analyze across continents to include global events and economic impacts, making an educated choice for the color that speaks for the world.

This next year in 2023, Viva Magenta, a vibrant crimson red. As the Pantone Institute explained, “Viva Magenta welcomes anyone and everyone with the same verve for life and rebellious spirit. It is a color that is audacious, full of wit, and inclusive of all.”

Out of all the colors of the year, this one intrigues me the most. I have not seen this magenta red represented in the interior design industry. I am excited to see how the Pantone Institutes’ influence will resonate in textiles and interior design products over the next couple of years.

Are You Going Bold?

So, are you going bold in 2023? A few accents here or there tossed on your sofa or bed. Or are you going to go for it with a wall or an entire room? I think we all know my answer. It will be pops of color until I meet the right space to paint the town color!

Remember when debating if you should or should not embrace color. Color is timeless. Neutrals are not. Neutrals are not safe. Add some color to your world. You will not regret it. If you lack confidence. then call me. I have a color service just for that.

  • Colorful sofas and sectionals are on the rise. Blush, emerald, or navy.

In addition, solid colored roller shades are on the rise. they added a pop of color to the past trend of white stark walls.

  • An easy affordable way to move away from a neutral color palette is choose a contrasting or complimenting color to paint a focal wall in your space.

Then find toss pillows or a rug that pick up the focal wall color with two additional colors in the textile or pattern in the rug.

This will break up the monochromatic neutrals which is dating the space. In addition, create a new energy.
