2023 Interior Design Trends: Which trends should you use?

2023 trends

Here are 2023 interior design trends that are sure to be timeless and modern:

1. Bold patterns:

Whether it's geometric shapes or floral motifs, bold patterns continue to make a statement in home decor. They can add visual interest and personality to any space.

Geometric patterns and shapes are big in the world of interior design. They have been a timeless modern trend since the early 1950s when the mid-century style came on the scene. Look for bold, graphic prints in furniture and accessories to make a statement in your home.

Floral patterns continue to remain a mainstay from traditional to modern spaces for over a century. Today's florals can feel more modern when choosing new modern colorways.

2. Natural materials:

Wood, stone, and other natural materials are building momentum in home design. These materials add a sense of warmth and organic beauty to any space. In 2022, we started seeing wood tones moving toward darker stains in chocolate and warm dark browns. I believe we will see this trend increase moving into 2024 and beyond.

Stone or stone looks are a risky investment when trends are involved. In the past year, we have seen dramatic stones used in many areas of the home. If you want to assure your investment remains timeless for decades into the future, then stick with the classics like marbles, limestones, soapstones, and slates.

Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, and if you fell in love with a stone that would not be considered timeless. I recommend it always in moderation. Choose a focal point where it is a minimal investment and does not dominate your entire space or home. For instance, a small bar, butler pantry, or powder room.

3. Metallics:

Metallic accents are a great way to add a touch of luxury to your home. Look for bronze, copper, or gold details in fixtures, furniture, and decor. Mixed metals add a touch of luxury to your home by incorporating mixed metals into your décor. Gold, silver, brass, and copper can all be used together to create a beautiful and unique look.

4. Velvet:

This sumptuous fabric is perfect for creating a cozy and inviting space. Look for velvet upholstered furniture or add velvet pillows and throws to your living room or bedroom for a touch of elegance. If you are regretting the relaxed flax linen style that dominated the industry for the past 15 years, do not fret. Reupholster a few pieces in the room a beautiful velvet in a color that you are drawn to and build on that palette.

5. Global influences:

Designers are looking to cultures around the world all the time for inspiration. You'll see more global influences in textiles, prints, and patterns from countries like Morocco, India, Africa, and Mexico making their way into homes this year.

Vintage Persian and Turkish rugs are not going away anytime soon. Their classic colors, patterns, and regal looks are timeless.

6. Moody hues:

Rich, deep colors are becoming more popular as people crave cozier atmospheres in their homes. These hues can be used as accents or for entire walls to create an inviting and intimate feel.

Color, in general, is timeless. It is neutrals that will time-stamp a design. Right?

“Are greys still in?”

“Are beiges back?”

Does no one ever ask if blues are out? Or oranges? The answer is not they do not.

The best way to stay on trend is to choose classic, timeless pieces that will never go out of style. This means avoiding fads and sticking to classic colors, shapes, and materials. The trends I have recommended above meet the requirements of my timeless checklist.

  • The 90’s Southwest trend has been recycled in the past year. The earth tones in creams, terracottas, and browns are the new neutrals.

Styled with kilim rugs and pillows heavy in texture and bold patterns it is a serene design aesthetic.

  • Be careful to not immerse your home in the Southwest trend.

Switch out a rug with a kilim style rug in your choice of color palette. Sprinkle a few terracotta pots and this will be a strong enough statement without committing your entire style to Southwest.
